Football League Match
St Pius X v Trinity Road
15th April 2016
It was a very wet Friday afternoon for our last League game of the season and we wanted to finish with a win. We quickly found that the ground was as slippery as ice, so the conditions were not ideal.
The whistle blew for the kick off and Trinity Road started the match. We dominated for the first few minutes but then Trinity Road hit us with a quick counter attack and scored. We did not drop our heads though and kept on going. Just before half time Trinity Road scored a second goal.
At half time Mr Daley gave us a team talk where he told us to work as hard as we could to win. So we kicked off the second half in a determined way. After five minutes we had scored 2 goals to make the score line 2-2. Trinity Road were then on the attack again, but fortunately they did not score. Suddenly Number 6 was running down the wing, he crossed the ball to Number 5, who scored. We quickly scored another goal, but then Trinity Road got a goal back. The score was 4-3 with a few minutes to go. In the final minutes we managed to get another goal to finish the match 5-3. When the final whistle blew, we were overjoyed.
Well done to everyone who played in the torrential rain and to the parents that came along and supported us.
Netball League Match
Our Lady Immaculate v St Pius X
20th April 2016
On Wednesday, 20th April, we played our third league match of the year against Our Lady Immaculate Primary School.
Our Lady Immaculate started the match and despite AC and GS blocking some of their shots, the first quarter ended 5-0.
We started the second quarter but again we didn’t manage to score.
In the third quarter we got three goals, TK with the first, DC with the second and GS with the third.
In the final quarter MH scored our fourth goal. The final score was 11-4 to Our Lady Immaculate.
After the match our coach reported that “the game did not reflect the score as it was a really good game between both schools and Our Lady Immaculate commented on how good St Pius were as we were predominately a year five team.”
Well done to everyone who played.
3 Tees Cricket
22nd April 2016
On Friday, 22nd April, eight children from Year 2 went to Chelmsford College to take part in the 3 Tees Cricket competition against seven other schools.
We all had a turn at batting and then fielding. We had to run to collect the balls and place them back on the Tees as quickly as possible. We played five games altogether and we worked really hard as a team.
We had lots of fun and would like to play in more competitions!
International Gaelic Football Tournament
22nd April 2016
On Friday, 22nd April, six children from Year 5 and 6 travelled on a coach with 10 other children to Greenford, London to play in a Gaelic Football Tournament. The team was made up of children from three Chelmsford schools:- St Pius X, Westlands and Our Lady Immaculate.
The Chelmsford team played in a group with 4 other teams and we won all 4 of our matches. We also won our last 16 match, but then we lost to St Teresa’s, a team from South London, in a very tight quarter final.
We finished in the top 8 out of 25 teams that took part from all over England and Ireland which is a wonderful achievement.
Well done to everyone who played in the tournament, you all played brilliantly.
28th April 2016
On Thursday, 28th April, nine children from Year 5 and 6 took part in our first ever Dodgeball Tournament at Lawford Mead Primary School.
We played in three matches, but only won one of them. However, we had lots of fun. As we only won one game, it was not enough for us to progress any further in the competition, but we had a wonderful time.
We have only been playing the game for a couple of weeks so we learnt a lot of new techniques and skills from watching the other teams and we will try and work these into our games for the future.
