Boys Football Tournament
2nd October 2019
On Wednesday, 2nd October, some of the Year 5 and 6 boys represented our school in a football tournament at Great Baddow High School. The boys really enjoyed the afternoon, performed well and did our school proud.
The highlight of our competition was our 1-0 victory over Lawford Mead. After a fantastic through ball by Dean, Thomas coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to give us the three points. Well done lads.
KS1 Mini Cross Country
7th October 2019
On Monday, 7th October, 3 boys and 3 girls from Year 1 and Year 2 walked to Melbourne Park to take part in the annual KS1 Mini Cross Country event. The competition was against a lot of other schools from the Chelmsford area.
Both our girls and boys teams ran fantastic races and were very proud of themselves! Despite the rain and slippery mud, everyone did their best and showed the others what St Pius X has got!
KS2 Cross Country
7th October 2019
On Monday, 7th October, the KS2 runners ran their first Cross Country at Melbourne Park. It was a well attended affair and we have displayed the team photographs on our PE board in the school hall.
A special mention must be given to Amelia-Rose for finishing in second place overall in the Year 3 girls race and that position helped the Year 3 girls get 1st place in their particular year group. These girls have now qualified for the County Finals to be held at Hadleigh Park in April 2020.
Congratulations to all who took part.
Sophie from Riverside Leisure Centre
8th October 2019
On Tuesday, 8th October, we had a visitor from the newly refurbished Riverside Leisure Centre who came into school to do an assembly to the whole school. After the assembly the children were given a leaflet/flyer to take home about the half term holiday activities they will be offering.
Yoga & Mindfulness Workshops
10th October 2019
On Thursday, 10th October, Ms Eubanks visited our school and held Yoga and Mindfulness Workshops with KS2 as part of our Mental Health Awareness Day. All the children in KS2 received information to take home giving tips and exercises to do to at home to help with relaxation. Our next step in school is to incorporate these sessions on a long term basis throughout KS1 and KS2. Ms Eubanks’ immediate impressions were that the children responded with due thought and consideration towards others.
15th October 2019
On Tuesday, 15th October, eight children from Year 1 were selected to represent St Pius X at the Teddy ‘Lympics event, and they, together with our Bronze Ambassadors, walked to Chelmsford Sports & Athletics Centre to take part in the competition.
Teddy ‘Lympics is a large inter-school competition, and there were around 10 schools from the local area competing at our session. There was, of course, also a big, cuddly teddy bear mascot, much to the delight of the children! All pupils were given teddy bear masks which they were able to decorate after each activity.
The carousel of activities saw the children compete as teams in throwing, running, skipping, jumping and balancing. Our pupils all tried their absolute best in every event, they had lots of fun doing it and we were delighted at the end to be crowned winners of the entire competition!
Special mention has to go to Eneojo who excelled in every event, and in particular, the skipping activity where he managed to skip through a hula hoop 29 times in 20 seconds. In all the years Teddy ‘Lympics has been running, the organisers said they have never seen such a high score. A huge well done to the children who took part and did St Pius X proud.
