Welcome!

Thank you for showing an interest in joining our school!

Our school has a unique and special ‘family feel’ which enables children to settle in well when they start at St. Pius X School. Children become accustomed to working hard and achieving high standards whilst enjoying new and ever exciting experiences in their learning. We promote the Gospel values of our Christian faith throughout our daily life and aim to create a positive and caring environment for everyone.

These documents must be supplied directly to the school office before the application closing date on 15th January 2022.

Appeals For Children Starting Primary School In September 2022.

If it has not been possible to offer your child a place at your preferred school, you may decide that you want to exercise your right of appeal against this decision.

When considering whether to appeal, it is important that you are aware that although the law allows you to appeal against admission decisions, it does not give your child the right to a place at a particular school. There is no guarantee that your appeal will be successful. If you are appealing for a place at a particular school, you should make arrangements for a place at an alternative school in case your appeal is unsuccessful. Accepting a place at another school does not affect your right to appeal concerning a place at the school you would prefer.

Infant Class Size Legislation
Appeals for children starting primary school in September 2022, are subject to Infant Class Size Legislation. The law states that there must not be more than 30 children in an infant class (that is, classes containing reception, year 1 and year 2 children).

If you’re appealing an infant size class limit, your chance of a successful appeal is very limited.

The Appeals Panel can only offer a place where it is satisfied that:

a)     the admission of additional children would not breach the infant class size

b)     the admission arrangements did not comply with admissions law or were not correctly and impartially applied and the child would have been offered a place if the arrangements had complied or had been correctly and impartially applied
c)     the decision to refuse admission was not one which a reasonable Admission Authority would have made in the circumstances of the case.

Lodging an appeal
If you wish to lodge an appeal you must complete a St Pius X Appeal Form (attached below). The completed form must be returned directly to the school in order for the appeal to be Lodged.

The deadline by when appeals against a refusal of a place should be lodged is Wednesday 18th May 2022 (if you want it to be heard before the end of the summer term).

Appeal hearings will be held on Wednesday 29th June 2022. Please see our timetable for lodging appeals for a full list of dates.

On 24 April 2020, the Government released guidelines for schools to follow with regards to the hearing of admission appeals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those guidelines have been extended by the Government to be in place until 30 September 2022. Admission Appeal hearings for St Pius X Catholic Primary School will therefore be held virtually using Zoom until the end of September.

In-Year Admissions.

An In-Year admission is any admission to a school outside of the 'normal' admissions round. In the case of applying for a place at St Pius X Catholic Primary school, an in-year admissions application must be made for all applications with the exception of those for September entry into our Reception class.

If you wish to make an In-Year application for our school we advise that you first read our admissions policy. (found below)

To make an in-year application you must complete the 'in-year application form' (found below) and return it directly to the school either via email or post.

email: admin2@st-piusx.essex.sch.uk

post: Admissions Officer, St Pius X Catholic Primary School, Tennyson Rd, Chelmsford. Essex. CM14HY.

If you are applying for a place at our school under a faith criterion you must also ensure that you complete our supplementary information form and return it directly to the school  along with your application form and copies of any supporting documentation. (please see supplementary information form below for full details.)

Waiting List
In addition to their right of appeal, children who's applications have been unsuccessful are offered the opportunity to be placed on our waiting list.  Anyone wishing to be added to the waiting list must provide the school with:
1) A completed SIF (Supplementary Information Form)
2) Certificate of Baptism (if applicable)
3) Letter of Practice from your Priest/Minister (if applicable).
Our waiting list is ranked according to the oversubscription criteria outlined in our admissions policy and priority will be given to children of Catholic families. Waiting lists are held open by the school until the last day of the Summer Term.
