PSHE/RSE
Intent:
At St Pius X, we want our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. The umbrella of our curriculum for PSHE/RSE encompasses Relationships Education, Health Education, Relationship and Sex Education, Mental Health, Online safety and Economic wellbeing.
We encourage our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to the life of St Pius X’s Primary School and the wider community. In doing so we help develop their sense of self-worth. We teach them how society is organised and governed. We teach them about rights and responsibilities. They learn to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse multicultural society.
Implementation:
At St Pius X Catholic Primary School we understand and recognise that every child is unique and we deliver our PSHE programme to support the growth and development of all children. By Using Ten Ten we are delivering a Relationship programme which is underpinned by Catholic beliefs. As part of our PSHE scheme we ensure that children have the opportunity to embed skills and knowledge, thus revisiting the programme over a 2-year period to allow children to develop their social, moral, cultural and spiritual awareness and understanding. We use Ten Ten’s ‘Life to the full’ programme which we have adapted to ensure that it meets the needs of the children within our community at the correct times within the academic year. To further support them we have included a careers, economic wellbeing and enterprise project for Key Stages One and Two in the summer term. Through their time at St Pius X Catholic Primary school all children will have the opportunities to embed their understanding as they build upon what they have previously learned within a truly spiral curriculum.

Financial Curriculum at St Pius X
At St Pius X Catholic Primary School, we supplement the PSHE curriculum that we offer with specific lessons relating to financial education. We utilise resources provided by MoneySense, which is a financial education programme created by Natwest. The programme is designed to teach pupils how to manage money, a skill we believe is very important as children grow older.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed the financial workshops run by volunteers provided through MoneySense this year. They were able to work through different scenarios, such as running a business, to think about budgeting effectively. It was brilliant for the children to speak to and be inspired by experts in the financial and business world.
Mental Health and Wellbeing at St Pius X
To support children with their mental health and wellbeing, we use 'The Zones of Regulation' to help our pupils independently recognise and regulate their own emotions.
The 4 zones are as follows:
We discuss with our pupils that everyone can be in any of these zones in one day and that there is no 'bad' zone to be in, but that the Green Zone is the best zone for learning. All of our children create their own 'toolkits' so that they have strategies to cope when they are struggling to self-regulate.
