Safeguarding
Harmful Sexual Behaviour
It is important for parents and carers to understand what is meant by harmful sexual behaviour, and be able to reinforce key messages from school at home.
Parents and carers should understand:
- the nature of harmful sexual behaviour;
- the effects of harmful sexual behaviour on CYP;
- the likely indicators that such behaviour may be taking place;
- what to do if it is suspected that child on child sexual abuse has occurred;
Further information to support, in relation to harmful sexual behaviour, is available online, including on the NSPCC and Lucy Faithfull Foundation websites.
Also, please use this link from the NSPCC for further information on healthy sexual development in young people.

The NSPCC will listen to your concerns, offer advice and support and can take action on your behalf if a child is in danger.
You don’t have to tell them who you are if you don’t want to, or you can ask us not to share your name or contact with the police or social services.
